Domaine André Ehrhart - Gewürztraminer Vendanges Tardives 2023 (sött vitt/sweet white)

The Ehrhart family has been cultivating vines in Alsace since 1910, passing the tradition down from father to son and now daughter  for four generations.

The André Ehrhart family estate is located in the village of Wettolsheim, one of the cradles of Alsatian winemaking and today one of the most important wine-growing villages in Alsace, enjoying a particularly favorable location between the Three Castles of Eguisheim and Hohlandsbourg Castle.

Today, the estate covers 10 hectares within the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designation, including four hectares in the Grand Cru appellation.

The grapes are cultivated organically and harvested exclusively by hand, allowing for careful sorting and selection. Whole-cluster pressing is used to prevent damage to the bunches, and vinification follows traditional methods, with temperature control and aging on fine lees.

Beyond these facts, the passion for the work well- and naturally done that animates the three generations currently still active on the estate is what stroke me on my visit there.

The late harvest wine of the estate is made with Gewürztraminer grapes famous for their flamboyant nose of lychees, rose and passion fruit.

This 2023 vintage we have tasted and decided to include in this selection made a strong impression on us. This is more a white wine that is sweet than a pure sweet white wine, meaning that it is highly drinkable and can be paired with aperitifs, foie gras or desserts especially if based on exotic fruits. A fantastic wine for a fantastic experience! Better served around 9°C.
