Herrenhof Lamprecht (Austria) - Gemischter Satz Weiss 2017 (vitt/white) : A Jewel of 100 grapes (few bottles left)
Herrenhof Lamprecht is located in the south-east of Austria in the Styrian mountains and is an estate that stands out thanks to the strong work-ethic of the winemaker who handles it. As winemaker Gottfried Lamprecht himself claims : handcrafted wines from start to end, expression of the terroir, freely and naturally produced, no-bullshit wines, just quality and authenticity. To these features, we could add also : fantastically enjoyable wines for everyone !
We chose to introduce this true gem of a wine estate with one of its most emblematic wines, the Buchertberg Gemischter Satz White. This is a so-called 'field-blend' ('gemischter Satz' in German),meaning that it is made out of numerous different varieties of grapes growing together on one field. And when we say 'numerous' we, or better said mister Lamprecht, means more than a hundred different grape varieties, some old almost forgotten ones and endemic to the Steiermark region !
This highly complex yet accessible wine offers a seductive nose with notes of quince, yellow pears, hazelnut and candied lemon. Creamy on the palate, lemon butter supported by a perfectly calibrated acidity. A truly remarkable wine, generous and flamboyant as its deep golden color suggests.
