Located right in the center of Spain, in the Gredos mountains high above Madrid, the Rico Nuevo estate was established to keep a 5-generations old family winemaking tradition alive. The particularity of this estate is its focus on 2 very Spanish grape varieties : Grenache in red and Albillo Real in white, and on producing the best expressions of these grapes' alliance with the distinct granitic soil of the vineyard. Hence Rico Nuevo fills your glass with a piece of its land as well as with fermented grape juice. This is the kind of wines we like and this is why we are so happy to have them as the first Spanish estate in our portfolio.
Since their first cuvées in 2018, Rico Nuevo's wines have received many praises in wine publications and deservingly so.
Jiron de Niebla ('Wisps of Fog' in Spanish) is a wine made out of 85 years old Grenach vines growing 1200m high above sea level. A very smooth and elegant version of Rico Nuevo's granitic terroir expression, Jiron de Niebla infuses notes of ripe raspberries in an otherwise predominantly mineral well-balanced structure cushioned by extremely silky tannins. As usual with Rico Nuevo's wines, Jiron de Niebla offers also a pleasant liveliness and drinkability which makes this wine a perfect match to fine dinners and pairs nicely with lingon and other berries accompanying meat dishes. A real favorite of ours.
